Starting from the Coast…

Moray CoastThe spectacular Moray Coast

Begin your journey on the rocky shores of the Moray Firth at Buckie, a charming fishing port with a population of around 8,000. From here, follow the Speyside Way as it winds its way south-west through the heart of whisky country, offering an unforgettable blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and Highland hospitality.
Your first day takes you to Fochabers for an overnight stay, before continuing to Craigellachie—home to the striking Telford Bridge and the fascinating Earth Pillars, both well worth a detour. From there, walk on to Ballindalloch, with the option of a rewarding spur to Tomintoul. At 1,132 feet above sea level, Tomintoul offers panoramic views across the Cairngorm Mountain Range.

Visit many distilleries along the way, including the world-renowned Glenfiddich, and savour the unique character of the Speyside whisky region. Grantown-on-Spey awaits next, where you can explore the enchanting Anagach Woods—keep an eye out for the elusive capercaillie!

The route culminates in Aviemore or Kingussie, a vibrant hub on the western edge of Cairngorms National Park. Surrounded by dramatic scenery and well-equipped with tourist facilities, it’s the perfect place to relax and reflect on your adventure.

The Speyside Way stretches between 65 and 92 miles, depending on your chosen spurs and detours. As you follow the crystal-clear waters of the River Spey, you’ll experience the quiet charm of less-trodden trails and some of the finest landscapes Scotland has to offer.

Transport: Kingussie Train Station is a 3 min walk from the Hotel. The main line allows you to travel on the East Coast main line or arrive via the famous Caledonian Sleeper service direct from central London – an experience not to be missed.
